Use this checklist to help you make a note of your symptoms before you talk to your GP.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Published in The Journal of Nutrition, the research found that those who never ate eggs had the highest risk overall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">A separate analysis suggested that avoiding eggs entirely was associated with a 22 per cent higher risk compared with eating around one egg per week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Researchers say eggs contain several nutrients thought to support brain health, including choline, vitamin B12, vitamin D, selenium, iodine and omega-3 fats, along with B vitamins linked to memory and nerve function.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">They suggest these nutrients may work together to support cognitive function, although the exact mechanisms remain unclear.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The study also tested dietary substitutions, finding that replacing eggs with other protein-rich foods such as nuts, seeds or legumes showed similar patterns of association, suggesting overall dietary patterns may be important.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">However, the authors stress the findings do not show that eggs prevent Alzheimer\u2019s disease.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mol-img-group floatRHS mol-hidden-caption\" style=\"\">\n<div class=\"mol-img\">\n<div class=\"image-wrap\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"i-ce993ea4499fdcd3\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.com\/1s\/2026\/05\/07\/09\/104494529-15797589-image-a-1_1778142194587.jpg\" height=\"236\" width=\"306\" alt=\"\" class=\"blkBorder img-share\" style=\"max-width:100%\" loading=\"lazy\" \/> <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">As an observational study, it can only identify associations, not prove cause and effect. Other lifestyle or dietary differences may still be influencing the results.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">They also note the population was unusually health-conscious, with low rates of smoking and alcohol use, which may limit how widely the findings apply.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Alzheimer\u2019s cases were identified using Medicare health records and diagnostic codes, strengthening reliability but not removing uncertainty entirely.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Previous research on diet and dementia risk has been mixed, with some studies suggesting potential cognitive benefits from egg consumption and others finding little or no effect.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">There has also been a shift in thinking around cholesterol in eggs.
